A Tribute to Matriarchs

This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day. Storytelling is a mandate found in many ancient texts. These texts encourage us to tell our stories to our children, their children, and their children’s children for generations to come. This drawing below is a tribute to the matriarchs who have told our stories for generations. Happy Mother’s Day, everyone! May your life tell a story that is worthy of the generations before you and a map for those who come after you. Blessings.

Create an Irresistible Non-Fungible Token

It is 3:45 am. I am up editing Lesson 2 of my online course on non-fungible tokens. At this time in the morning, I can usually get at least 90 minutes of complete focus time.

As I edit Lesson 2, it occurs to me that I would like to share some of its information in my blog. So, let me know your thoughts in the comment section and subscribe to this website. It will help me out a lot.

Here are a few paragraphs taken from Lesson 2.

Lesson 2: Create an irresistible artistic NFT

Although blockchain technology is undeniably powerful, we know that not all artistic non-fungible tokens (NFTs) created on a blockchain between 2020 and 2022 hold value today. The key that unlocked this failure is not in the technology itself, but in the product. To truly succeed in this marketplace, you need to focus on crafting an irresistible artistic non-fungible token that fully leverages this robust technology. So, what makes an irresistible artistic NFT truly strong and valuable?

To create a STRONG IRRESISTIBLE ARTISTIC PRODUCT, you should focus on producing a piece that delights and holds value for your idea collector. You can discover what resonates with your audience through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and research into their preferences. For example, as a portrait artist aiming to serve music lovers with a unique drawing of their favorite musicians, I asked people from different generations one simple question: If you could own a unique drawing of any musician, who would be your top three choices?

If I could travel back in time and redo this exercise, I would focus just on millennials born between 1981 and 1996 because they are currently leading the charge in collecting artistic non-fungible tokens (NFTs). However, as this marketplace for artistic NFTs gain traction once again, the demographic for buyers will also change. To help you discover your targeted group, you can Google or ask AI what groups are leading in purchasing artistic NFTs. Once you find your targeted audience, you need to create a questionnaire to gather information regarding what type of art appeals to them. It may be portrait drawings, landscape paintings, sculptors, characters created for gaming, etc. Only our imagination is the limit. Your results from this exercise will give you an idea of which art piece to upload as a non-fungible token.

Keep in mind that understanding what an NFT art collector values most can boost your chance of offering something they truly cherish. When people love your work, they spread the word—and as they share their delight, your customer base grows!

Traditional Art Meets Technoloy, Lesson 2

Success to you all!

Why are NFTs a Game-Changer for Artists

A message to traditional artists
Tameka Art

Artists, if you consider NFTs to be a scam, perhaps you can help me understand why.

When I researched the technology behind non-fungible tokens (NFTs), I did not find that to be true. What I did find was a lot of confusion. Most people I spoke with did not fully understand blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, or smart contracts. And to be honest, I did not understand at first, either. These terms feel foreign, especially if your life’s work has been rooted in tangible materials like paint, paper, wood, or clay.

So yes—NFTs can feel overwhelming to traditional artists. But feeling overwhelmed does not mean the platform is a scam. It just means we need better explanations, simpler guidance, and a way to move forward with clarity and confidence. So, I used my teaching skills to create a course on NFTs for traditional artists. Why? Because I believe this platform is not just real—it is rich with opportunity. Let me share why I think the NFT space is not only valid but valuable for artists like you.

Global Reach Without Gallery Walls

Getting your work seen used to require gallery representation, exhibitions, and/or social media hustle. With NFTs, you can upload your artwork and reach collectors across the globe—instantly. It removes gatekeepers and expands your audience beyond your local art scene. Collectors of your work are not just buying digital files, they are buying your vision, your process, and your story.

Royalties That Honor Your Craft

In the traditional market, if your painting sells for $500, and ten years later it is resold for $5,000, you do not profit a penny of that resale. However, with NFTs, you can embed a royalty fee (up to 10%) directly into your digital (smart) contract. This action means every time your work changes hands, you get paid again, automatically. No chasing payments. No paperwork.

It is a new way to earn, and more importantly, a way to be fairly compensated over time for your vision, hard work, and story.

Your Originals Stay Safe—and Valuable

A common fear for a few artists is that NFTs might replace or cheapen their original work. They will not. In fact, NFTs can enhance your original work. Think of an NFT as a digital certificate (token) of authenticity tied to your real artwork. You can choose to include the physical piece in your sale or not. It is completely up to you. Some artists keep the original and simply sell digital rights. Other artists offer both. The bottom line is you stay in full control of your work.

No Tech Degree Required

You do not need to be a tech expert to get started. I created my course to guide traditional artists step by step. No jargon. No pressure. And you can work at your own pace. You will learn how to safely set up your wallet, mint your first piece, and understand how smart contracts work, plus more. If you can follow a recipe, you can learn NFTs.

There’s Room for You in the Digital Future

This platform is not replacing traditional art. It is expanding it. You still get to paint, draw, sculpt, carve, take photographs, whatever. You can continue to create with your hands and your heart. The NFT space just gives you a new way to share, sell, and scale your work—globally, and on your terms. You do not have to rush. You just need to be open this new way of sharing your creative work.

A Lesson Learned

Growing as an artist. Three faces of P!nk. P!nk has been my most challenging person to draw, thus far. So, I keep drawing her. This drawing was done in 2021. Some of you will appreciate my story: My original idea was to drape the middle P!nk over the younger and current P!nk; however, the middle P!nk was so forceful the drawing dictated that I draw her showing the middle finger. I used my hand as a guide to draw a hand on the younger P!nk to hold the middle P!nk’s hand so that I would not have to draw the middle finger. I am sure either rendition would have worked. But if I had it to do all over again, I would have listened to what the original drawing dictated to me because that would have been the most honest rendition. NFTs, Blockchain, Crypto, Smart Contract, all Overwhelming?

What if I told you that you do not need to be a tech expert to benefit from NFTs? I have spent 9 months researching and simplifying the process so that traditional artists, yes you, can confidently enter the NFT space. My course breaks it all down into plain language showing you how to sell your art in a whole new way. If you are ready to explore? Let’s chat.

Art Meets Technology – Tameka

In this incredible age of technology, it is not time to pause. It is time to thrive! In this digital piece, I used technology to combine 2 separate hand drawings (my 5-year-old self, and a current rendition) with one digital background. “Somewhere in every grownup lives the child they once were.” #tamekaart #encouragement #inspiration #empowerment #art #nft
